  • What is Identity Verification?

    Identity Verification is an online verification via OCBC MY Mobile Banking [OCBC MY app]. It's a process of identifying and verifying individual customers using electronic means. The process replaces the face-to-face identity verification method.

  • Who regulates the Identity Verification process?

    The Identity Verification is a process that is implemented by OCBC that is guided by the Electronic Know-Your-Customer [e-KYC] policy regulated by Bank Negera Malaysia (BNM) in June 2020.

  • What are the benefits of performing the Identity Verification?

    As OCBC is heading towards a more digitalised and seamless customer experience, this solution is aimed to provide customers the convenience to apply for OCBC Credit Card[s] without the need to travel to OCBC Branch - saving their effort, time, and cost.

  • Where do I perform the Identity Verification

    You can perform the Identity Verification via the OCBC MY app.

  • What is the recommended network infrastructure to perform the Identity Verification?

    Mobile data/Internet-enabled Wi-Fi connectivity with an average speed of 20-500 Mbps.

  • At which stage will I be required to perform the Identity Verification?

    You will be required to perform Identity Verification via the OCBC MY app on the same day you submitted your OCBC Credit Card Application Form and your supporting documents to OCBC sales representative.

    If you have not submitted the form and supporting documents, you are advised to complete and submit within 14 calendar days after you have performed Identity Verification on the OCBC MY app.

  • What if I do not have access to Wi-Fi or mobile data?

    At present, the Identity Verification can only be accessed with internet connection, i.e. Wi-Fi or mobile data.

    If the access issue cannot be overcome, you are advised to provide a copy of your MyKad (front and back] during the credit card application submission. You are then required to perform the verification at your preferred OCBC branch during the credit card application submission.

  • Is the Identity Verification mandatory?

    Yes, it is required as a part of the credit card application process by OCBC.

  • I am concerned about the security of the data processed and do not wish to perform the Identity Verification. Is there an alternative?

    OCBC adheres strictly to the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). Rest assured, we will not process your personal data prior to obtaining your consent.

  • How long does it take to complete the Identity Verification process?

    It should take you less than 5 minutes to complete the Identity Verification on the OCBC MY app.

  • What happens during the Identity Verification process?

    You will be verified with your MyKad details, mobile number, and selfie.

  • How many attempts can be made to complete the eKYC verification process?

    You are advised to perform the Identity Verification process in a single attempt. Please ensure that you adhere to the guidance given on the OCBC MY app when performing the Identity Verification.

  • How do I check my verification status?

    Once Identity Verification is performed successfully, you should be given a ‘Verification number’ on the screen. Please keep the number for reference to check your verification status with OCBC sales representative.

  • What should I have ready before performing the Identity Verification?

    Please ensure you:

    1. Have your mobile phone with stable internet connection.
    2. Have your original identification card MyKad (dual image] with you.
    3. Are in a brightly lit environment.

  • Is there anything I should take note of when capturing a photo of my MyKad.

    During the Document Verification process, you are required to take a photo of your MyKad, both front and back.

    Please take note of the following when capturing an image of your MyKad:

    1. Use the original copy of your latest MyKad (with dual image] during the document verification process. Do not capture the image using the softcopy/photocopy version of your MyKad.
    2. Please grant the internet browser necessary access to your device’s camera function.
    3. If you are iPad or tablet user, ensure you have changed your browser setting to “Mobile" site.
    4. Do remove the plastic cover on your MyKad, if any.
    5. Do ensure that your MyKad fits into the allocated frame.
    6. All information on your MyKad must be shown/read clearly, i.e. do not cover the details.
    7. Ensure the image of your MyKad is taken in a brightly lit environment.
    8. Avoid glare and reflection when capturing the image.

  • Will the Bank accept my MyKad if it is a temporary/old version, without the engraved “ghost image"?

    The Bank will only accept the MyKad with the engraved “ghost image" or at least 64K chip and above.

    In this scenario, you are advised to provide a copy of your MyKad (front and back] and perform the verification at your preferred OCBC branch during the credit card application submission.

  • What should I do if my MyKad is damaged in one of the following scenarios?

    • Damaged MyKad chip
    • Damaged laminated plastic layer
    • MyKad appears to be faded

    The system will not be able to capture the details accurately during the document verification process if your MyKad is either damaged or appears faded.

    Alternatively, you are advised to provide a copy of your MyKad (front and back] and perform the verification at your preferred OCBC branch during the credit card application submission.

  • What should I do if I receive a pop-up message indicating that my MyKad is invalid?

    An uneven MyKad surface or a blurred image could result in the system being unable to capture the details accurately.

    Nevertheless, you will be prompted to try again.

  • Is there anything I should take note of when taking the selfie video?

    During the Facial Recognition process, you are required to take a selfie video.

    Things to note when taking a selfie video:

    1. You (alone] should stay within the video frame while the recording is taking place.
    2. Please ensure that the background is neat and clear; a brightly lit environment is ideal.
    3. Smile, blink or nod your head while taking the selfie video.
    4. Remove any wearable items such as masks, spectacles, and Purdah [for Muslim women].
    5. You are not required to hold your MyKad while taking the selfie video.

  • Can I pre-record and upload the video when performing the Identity Verification?

    No, a real-time video is mandatory when performing the facial recognition verification process.
